Brahma Incarnation

 ਅਥ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਕਥਨੰ ॥

Now begins the description of the Brahma Incarnation.

ਚੌਪਈ ॥

Chaupai

ਅਬ ਉਚਰੋ ਮੈ ਕਥਾ ਚਿਰਾਨੀ ॥ ਜਿਮ ਉਪਜ੍ਯੋ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਸੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੀ ॥ ਚਤੁਰਾਨਨ ਅਘ ਓਘਨ ਹਰਤਾ ॥ ਉਪਜ੍ਯੋ ਸਕਲ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਕੋ ਕਰਤਾ ॥੧॥

Now I will tell of an ancient tale of how the knowledgeable scholar Brahma took birth. The four-headed Brahma was the destroyer of all sins and creator of the universe.

ਜਬ ਜਬ ਬੇਦ ਨਾਸ ਹੋਇ ਜਾਹੀ ॥ ਤਬ ਤਬ ਪੁਨਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਹੀ ॥ ਤਾ ਤੇ ਬਿਸਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬਪੁ ਧਰਾ ॥ ਚਤੁਰਾਨਨ ਕਰ ਜਗਤ ਉਚਰਾ ॥੨॥

When all the Vedas slowly start disappearing then Brahma takes on his form. For this reason Vishnu himself takes on the form of Brahma and is known as “Chaturanan” (four-faced) in the world.

ਜਬ ਹੀ ਬਿਸਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬਪੁ ਧਰਾ ॥ ਤਬ ਸਬ ਬੇਦ ਪ੍ਰਚੁਰ ਜਗਿ ਕਰਾ ॥ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਕਲ ਬਨਾਏ ॥ ਜੀਵ ਜਗਤ ਕੇ ਪੰਥਿ ਲਗਾਏ ॥੩॥

When Vishnu manifested himself as Brahma the knowledge of the Vedas was outspread in the world. He composes all the Shastras and Simritis and paves the way of righteousness for all beings.

ਜੇ ਜੇ ਹੁਤੇ ਅਘਨ ਕੇ ਕਰਤਾ ॥ ਤੇ ਤੇ ਭਏ ਪਾਪ ਤੇ ਹਰਤਾ ॥ ਪਾਪ ਕਰਮੁ ਕਹ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਿ ਦਿਖਾਏ ॥ ਧਰਮ ਕਰਮ ਸਬ ਜੀਵ ਚਲਾਏ ॥੪॥

The people who carried out sin became those who removed sins once they attained knowledge of the Vedas. Brahma explained the sinful actions and everyone walked on the path of dharma.

ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਭਯੋ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਅਵਤਾਰਾ ॥ ਸਬ ਪਾਪਨ ਕੋ ਮੇਟਨਹਾਰਾ ॥ ਪ੍ਰਜਾ ਲੋਕੁ ਸਬ ਪੰਥ ਚਲਾਏ ॥ ਪਾਪ ਕਰਮ ਤੇ ਸਬੈ ਹਟਾਏ ॥੫॥

Brahma manifested himself because he was the destroyer of sin. He leads his court on the true path of dharma. He breaks everyone away from their sinful actions.

ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਪ੍ਰਜਾ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਕਰ ਧਰਿਯੋ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਅਵਤਾਰ ॥ ਧਰਮ ਕਰਮ ਲਾਗੇ ਸਬੈ ਪਾਪ ਕਰਮ ਕਹ ਡਾਰਿ ॥੬॥

This way, to stop his subjects from sins, Vishnu comes in the form of Brahma. All beings leave their sinful past behind and start living dedicated to their dharma.

CHAUPAI

ਦਸਮ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਬਿਸਨ ਕੋ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ॥ ਧਰਿਯੋ ਜਗਤਿ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਸੁਭ ਕਰਮਾ ॥ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬਿਸਨ ਮਹਿ ਭੇਦੁ ਨ ਲਹੀਐ ॥ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਭੀਤਰ ਇਮ ਕਹੀਐ ॥੭॥

The tenth incarnation of Vishnu is Brahma. Who takes form to spread righteousness throughout the world. Think no difference between Brahma and Vishnu, such is the thought stated within the Shastras and Simritis.

ਇਤਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਟਕੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਦਸਮੋ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਸਮਾਪਤਮ ਸਤੁ ਸੁਭਮ ਸਤੁ ॥੧੦॥
